11/11/11
On November 11, 2011, which also happens to be Veteran’s Day, I’ve decided to take some time and jot down a few things that I’m thankful for. Things that bring me back down to earth and remind me to stop and smell the flowers.
- Obviously family. And Gus. And my furry niece and nephew.
- Awesome friends.
- My education.
- The opportunity to move to Spain.
- The scenic walk I take to the kids’ school every day.
- Tortilla—the best Spanish food there is.
- The comfort of knowing I can always go home. No matter what.
- Ugg boots. They may be fug, but they’re heaven in shoe-form.
- The patriotism of America. It gives a sense of belonging that can’t be found elsewhere.
- Skype—I wouldn’t have lasted this long abroad without it.
- My white noise machine. It will drown out Sister’s compulsive teeth grinding when she visits.
- Diet Coke. Need I say more?
Some of these items may seem small, but they’re what get me through the day-to-day grind. There are so many things in my life that I need to step back and appreciate more, and making little lists like this in my journal help me to do so.
